Following Union minister Arun Jaitley’s scathing rebuttal of Rahul Gandhi’s speech, Congress today responded with their version of statistics on NPAs, loans to industrialists, Make in India programmes and job creation to counter the minister’s claims.
“How much does Shri Arun Jaitley know? Has ‘Arrogance of Power’ reached such a zenith where BJP is blind to ‘Farmer Distress’? How are empty worded ‘Blogs’ an answer to ‘Betrayal of Farmers’ by Modi Govt?” Congress leader Randeep S Surjewala responded to the Union minister’s Facebook blog where he had questioned the claims made by the Congress chief.
Earlier today, Jaitley via his blog had asserted that the Congress president’s allegations stemmed from his lack of knowledge.
“How much does he know? When will he know? Listening to his speech delivered in Madhya Pradesh today reaffirms my curiosity about the answer,” the Union minister had written on his Facebook blog as he proceeded with a point-by-point rebuttal of the allegations levelled by the Congress president.
Dismissing Jaitley’s blog as “Gyan” to the nation, the Congress accused the “Union minister without portfolio” of trivializing farmers’ issues and distorting facts.
Last month, the government had announced that Piyush Goyal will be given additional charge of the finance ministry in the absence of Arun Jaitley who had to take leave due to medical reasons.
In a statement released on his Twitter account, the Congress communication in-charge cited a reply given by Finance ministry on April 3, 2018, to validate Rahul Gandhi’s allegation made earlier in the day during a rally in Mandsaur, MP.
“Modi government wrote off loans of a handful of crony friends worth Rs 2.41 lakh crore as per reply given to Parliament by Finance Ministry as recently as on April 3, 2018,” the statement read.
Terming the NDA government “NPA Sarkar”, Surjewala alleged that there has been an increase of “whopping” 230% in NPAs during the Modi government.
The Congress leader took a dig at the NDA government and said that “Fleece the Banks” and “Fly Away to Foreign Lands” is the “Facility for Fraudsters” under Modi government. He also presented a list of various ‘bank scams under the Modi government.’
On ‘Make in India,’ the minister cited falling figures of industrial growth, alleging that the flagship scheme of the Modi-led government has been reduced to a mere slogan.
Similar figures were presented to counter Jaitley’s claim on job creation.
At the end of the statement, Surjewala listed a series of figures on agricultural growth, the Minimum Selling Price to farmers, rural wage growth, farmers’ suicide, and agriculture export.
The war of words started today morning with the Congress chief launching a scathing attack on various policies of the PM Modi-led government during a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur.
Within hours of conclusion of Rahul Gandhi’s speech, Union minister contradicted the Congress chief’s allegations with a 6-point blog post.
